In the future, Norgesfilm will collaborate with the Norwegian Film Institute on film distribution to Norwegian schools. The collaboration will make it even easier to reach schools with good films in a legal, educational and entertaining way. Filmoteket opened to the public on April 6, 2020. Since then, a number of media outlets have covered the libraries' film streaming service. The purpose of Filmoteket is to offer films that meet the libraries' requirements for quality, breadth, versatility and relevance. The Danish library streaming service Filmstriben lent out a total of 1.7 million films in 2020. This is an increase of 600,000 loans from the previous year. Filmstriben's technical solutions are provided by Norgesfilm. Filmstriben is Dansk BiblioteksCenter (DBC)'s library streaming service and has been a customer of Norgesfilm for a number of years.

Sølvberget Library in Stavanger was the very first library to join Filmoteket.
